The Plastic Chair

A single blue moulded plastic chair floats near the centre of the sheet, its legs and back described in cool teal washes that deepen to near-black in the shadowed hollows. Below, a loose grey reflection anchors it to an unseen floor.

The painter isolates an utterly ordinary object and treats it with real attention, tracking how thin transparent layers build the sheen of the moulded plastic. The surrounding white of the paper does the work of light and space, and the study is spare, quiet and assured.
