A young woman raises a ringed hand to cover the lower half of her face, eyes lifted and bright above it, a beaded ornament swinging at her temple. The gesture is intimate and slightly guarded, and the drawing pushes it to a dramatic tonal finish.
Deep shadow gathers under the veil and around the fingers, thrown against the luminous forehead and eyes. This is the most fully worked of the sheets, the pencil pressed to near-charcoal darks to model the hand and the folded cloth.
